SNAP goes the tree!

It rained a LOT last night. In the middle of the night, I heard a large "SNAP" sound followed by a muffled thud. In the morning I found this

The old (ancient) Bois d'arc tree (aka HorseApple tree) finally gave in to gravity.

Or was it the squirrels trying to get back at me??? Hmmmm
Amazingly, it did not even hit the ground - it is resting on 3 points: 1) the break point, 2) a stump of the photinia bush, 3) a branch junction of the neighboring tree (also a very old bois d'arc, in the neighbor's yard. Though it sounds precarious, it seems to be fairly solid (at least, for now).

Luckily, there was no damage to the house. Back in February I had a tree service trim the longer branches (that hung over the house) , so nothing hit the house.

Nonetheless, more work to be done!

In memory... the old Bois d'arc tree ain't what she used to be!

Before and after.
